T-shirt - The Skating Minister, Henry Raeburn - White
Description of the pattern
The pattern printed on this model is a representation of the famous painting entitled "The Reverend Robert Walker Skating on Duddingston Loch", more commonly known as "The skating minister".
This work is an oil painting currently held at the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh. It was painted by Henry Raeburn, although this has been the subject of persistent controversy throughout the 2000s.
This painting, created in the 1790s, was virtually unknown until 1949. Since then, it has become one of Scotland's most iconic paintings, symbolizing Scottish culture during the Enlightenment.
The figure in the scene, Robert Walker, skating on a frozen lake with his arms crossed over his chest, was both a minister of Canongate Kirk, a pastor of the Church of Scotland, and a member of the world's first figure skating club, the Edinburgh Skating Club, as well as the Royal Company of Archers.
