Along with "Departure-Athletics" and "Corner", this oil on wood is one of three parts of the work "Sport Study" that allowed the artist to win the Olympic title in the painting category of the 1924 Paris Olympic Art Competition.
Jean Jacoby is a renowned Luxembourgish artist particularly famous for his abundant creation of drawings, paintings, posters, and illustrations depicting athletes from various disciplines in action.
With his gold medal won in 1928 for his drawing "Rugby", he is the most decorated Olympic artist in the history of this competition, which ran parallel to the sporting events and was dubbed the "Pentathlon of the Muses" by Pierre de Coubertin.

In this painting, a rugby player wearing a red and white striped jersey is highlighted in the foreground. Pushing hard on his supporting leg, he runs with the ball in hand to score a try in the opposing team's in-goal area, which he seems close to judging by the perspective rendered simply and effectively by his team's posts in the background. He is pursued by two opponents and one of his teammates coming to support him.

As was his custom, Jean Jacoby chose to paint a phase of the game and postures that allowed him to convey the effort of the athletes through movement and speed.
