T-shirt - Pelotaris, Tobeen - Black
Description of the pattern
The work entitled "Pelotaris" by Félix Elie Bonnet, known as "Tobeen", also known as "Les Pelotaris", is undoubtedly the most popular painting in Basque culture, but also the one that brought fame to the Bordeaux-born artist, when his canvas was purchased by the art critic Théodore Duret at the Salon des Indépendants in 1912.
Depicting Basque pelota players playing a game at the gates of a village recognizable by the architecture in the background, Tobeen here presents his personal vision of Cubism, distinguishing himself from that of Braque and Picasso.
While his art aligned with that of the artists of the Section d'Or, Tobeen did not wish to follow all the rigorous codes of Cubism as advocated by Metzinger, but sought to find a certain accuracy intuitively.
Part of a traditional Western inspiration, he gradually evolved towards a poetic post-Cubist style, as evidenced by the representation of the Basque pelota players whose postures can recall those of classical models.
